Interesting sites:
The apartment is located about 50m from Ponte Vecchio in the historic district of Oltrarno which means "beyond of the Arno ", this area extends along the south bank of the river. The Oltrarno represents the true essence of Florence: a quiet, greener area and therefore more relaxing than the others. For this reason many tourists appreciate it more and more. This area is also known as the handicraft district, famous for its delightful shops, small shops and the studios of artisans (in particular antiques and leather goods): via Maggio represents the center of Florentine antiques. From a rural center, in past centuries the Oltrarno became a chic neighborhood where many aristocrats built their own palaces and villas. The largest of these is undoubtedly Palazzo Pitti, former home of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany. Nowadays Palazzo Pitti hosts many exhibitions and museums, among the most important in the city. Other important attractions of the Oltrarno are the Brancacci Chapel with its magnificent frescoes by Masaccio, Masolino and Filippino Lippi, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breathtaking view of Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato (one of the highest points in the city and the best example of Romanesque art in Tuscany) and the Ponte Vecchio which houses countless jewelers and goldsmiths. Inside of of Palazzo Pitti there is the wonderful Boboli garden, an open-air museum of sculptures, some dating back to the 16th century and 17th century. Finally, the Oltrarno is also famous for its market in Piazza Santo Spirito (held every morning), cafes, wine bars (Ditta Artigianale, Caffè degli Artigiani, Caffè Maioli, Olio Restaurant, …) and trattorias offering cuisine Tuscany (Cammillo, Il Bordino, Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni, Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco, Il Magazzino...). Those who will choose to live in this area they will find a wide range of food shops, pastry shops, bakers and much more.
