DAY TWO IN FLORENCE:

Start Day Two out with Florence’s most acclaimed art gallery- the Uffizi Gallery. Here you will find some of the finest painting in the world, even for those not-so-artistically-inclined. This truly is a must-see gallery! The Uffizi has MUCH to offer those of all ages and all tastes—sometimes too much therefore we recommend hitting this gallery early, with a fresh mind—and be sure to allow 3-4 hours minimum to explore! We highly suggest reserving tickets in advance online (even prior to actually arriving in Florence especially during peak tourist seasons).

From the Uffizi you can take a quick stroll around the beautiful Piazza della Signoria (town hall/ squre). This is one of the most charming and striking squares in all of Florence and has been the political heart of the city since the Middle Ages. Piazza Signoria is a lively, often crowded square with many restaurants, café’s and gelateria’s for your enjoyment. This is a great spot to grab lunch, coffee and/ or a quick dessert. Within this square you will find Palazzo Vecchio (The Old Palace), the Marzocco by Donatello, the Neptune Fountain and a copy of the David by Michelangelo.

After re-charging and taking in the sights of Piazza Signoria move back past the Uffizi gallery towards the Arno River, along which you will find the famous Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge) and all your heart desires in terms of jewelry shopping. This famous bridge contains much of the most beautiful, extravagant and elegant jewelry shops in all of Florence. In addition to the shopping the Ponte Vecchio provides stunning views of each direction of the Arno.

Cross the Ponte Vecchio to explore the southern side of Florence- the Oltrano. Although there are many, many side streets to wander, and sites to take in, if you are trying to make the most of each hour we recommend hitting Santa Maria del Carmine (stunning frescoes), the church of Santo Spirito (designed by the famed Brunelleschi), the regal Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace) and/or the Boboli Gardens (weather permitting).

By this time I am sure you will be more than ready for a hearty, Tuscan meal. Settle in to one of the quaint Oltrano restaurants for a great meal, finished off the Tiramisu, Crème Caramel or simply one of our fine Italian espresso’s. You will now be energized enough for the walk back to your apartment and a good night’s sleep!
