Where Do I Start?

The last thing you think until you arrive is, where to first?

Where Do I Start?
What to do first

When you first arrive in Florence, from whatever direction or mode of transport you may have used to get here, you can't help but be overwhelmed by the sheer outstanding beauty and scale of Florence. When compared to other cities in Europe Florence is small, but it has to be one of the biggest cities for history, art, architecture and culture in the world. The question is, where to start?

You are about to head out to embrace the wonders of Florence, when you suddenly think, where do I start? This is a very common occurrence and can often take some time to decide, what with getting the map out, circling the major attraction and hoping that the line hasn't extended to over half a mile yet.

On your first day we advise taking a walk round the city, with a map, marking any points of interest that you might like to come back to, e.g. Uffizi, Duomo or Palazzo Vechhio. This helps to get your bearings of the city and also get to see the delightful narrow alleyways with just as much character as the larger more famous ones.

Once you have seen the main parts of the city, you can then delve into its history with the help of its museums, e.g. Galleria Dell'Accademia or Galleria Degli Uffizi, These hold the prized possessions of Florence past. Then it’s highly recommended that a trip to the Duomo come next, going with the organized tour that runs every half an hour in English and Italian will get you to places the normal admission won’t, e.g. round the top of the cathedral as well as the dome and to hear how the amazing feat of engineering was undertaken.

A trip to the Pitti Palace and the Boboli gardens will be an all-day event in itself and on a beautiful day can be a gorgeous experience, with a hill top view of the hole city, there will be plenty of opportunity to make your friend jealous back home.
