Winter Day Trip from Florence

Southern Tuscany, in particular, has many natural hot springs where you can go and relax at any time of year. Some of the areas to explore here are Monte Amiata, Maremma, Saturnia, Petriolo, Venturina and San Filippo to name a few. From natural springs, to modern hotels with pools where they bring in the hot springs water, this fantastic experience can be suited to your particular taste.
Many of the towns have constructed beautiful hotels and spas the funnel in the water from nearby natural springs where you can pamper yourself with modern luxuries. Or you can “do as the Romans do” and drive through the countryside in search of natural pools with beautiful white rock formations, waterfalls and steaming water in the cold winter air.
The history of visiting hot springs dates back to ancient Rome with the Romans believe the water came from Hades with special powers. Even today, the waters are believed to have the ability to cure certain ailments and bring health and purity to the body.
