The Oltrarno is a part of the city center across the River and composes the neighborhoods of the Pitti Palace, Santo Spirito and San Frediano. It is historically a very Florentine neighborhood with local shopkeepers carrying on traditions of furniture restoration and hand crafting beautiful door knobs and knockers.
In recent years the area has become more popular with the younger generations as it provides a quiet and relaxing sanctuary outside of the immediate city center but is still within walking distance to everything, and now has some of the cities best bars and restaurants. It is home to the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens, the beautiful Santo Spirito church and the Santa Maria del Carmine church with its famous Brancacci Chapel containing a painting of Adam and Eve that is said to have sparked the Renaissance.
Some of the most popular restaurants include Il Santo Bevitore, Quattro Leone, Il Guscio and Gusta Pizza. Gelateria Carraia is my favorite gelato in the city and Dolce Via in Piazza del Carmine is one of the most popular places to mingle with the locals over a negori o spritz in the evening.
It’s a great place to discover and we can help you do that by finding you a great apartment in the area. Here are just a few:
Via del Leone,
Via Santo Spirito, and
Via Toscanella.
