Things to do in November in the Hidden City

November in Florence
In our opinion, Florence is one of the best places to visit in the Fall. November particularly holds lots of opportunity for exploration and excitement away from summer crowds, and at a good time to find amazing travel deals and discounts.

For instance, depending on what days you fly and your departure and arrival cities, we have found round-trip flights from the US to Italy for as little as $375 USD! And there are probably other deals and steals out there for you to find with some simple searches.

Florence
November is a great time for Florence in general. The weather reaches the mid 50s during the day and can either be perfectly sunny or have a bit of rain. But either way the city is alight with excitement in preparing for the holidays and even has some Christmas lights throughout town to get you in the holiday spirit.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the summer and spring tourists, November can allow you to explore Florence at your own pace. Take your time walking around town without bumping into people taking pictures, and sit in a warm, cozy restaurant enjoying the always comforting food.

Speaking of Food…
From November through December, the new harvests of olives are hand picked for olive oil production. Olive oil is at its best just following production, when it still carries the green color from the olives. From spicier varieties to sweeter types, they’re delicious with all foods including meats, vegetables, breads, etc.

In addition to the olive oil, Fall is also the best time for Italian truffles (tartufi) and mushrooms (funghi). Locals love getting up early to head out to the hills to hunt fresh mushrooms for home cooked meals. But don’t worry, the restaurants are also creating special dishes that feature these seasonal favorites (along with the fresh olive oil).

Events
Outside of visiting the beautiful Florence attractions such as the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi, there is certainly no shortage of things to do in November. For example, in early November experience the International Art and Restoration Fair (http://www.salonerestaurofirenze.org/2010/eng/), see La Bohme by Giacomo Piuccini on November 6, or on the 28th, participate in the Florence Marathon.
