La Feste delle Donne

International Women's Day

March 8 marks international women’s day – a day to celebrate the women in your life and recognize those who have come before and paved the way for women’s rights.

The first International Women’s Day was observed in 1911 and is continued today to demonstrate the respect and appreciation for women and to celebrate women’s achievements.

In Italy, it is traditional to present the women of your life with a bright yellow mimosa plant on this day. In Florence, we have some other ideas of how you can get creative to show your appreciation.

Whether for a date, or with a group of girls, these are three things you must do at some point with a lady friend.

1. Art Bar – Serving up beautiful cocktails at small café tables lit by candlelight, this intimate bar is a great place to catch up and relax.
Via del Moro, 4-red, 50123

2. The Hemingway – You can never go wrong when surrounded by plates and cups of chocolate and the Hemingway always does it well. Enjoy an Irish coffee and a fresh made muffin in this warm and cozy setting.
Piazza Piattellina, 9, 50124

3. Jazz Club – Enjoy live jazz in the underground dwelling that feels like it’s straight out of a movie. Hideaway and get your fill of American, Italian and other worldly classics.
Via Nuova de' Caccini, 3 50121

4. Stay in the Center
– Take a break from "real life" and escape to a beautiful apartment in the center for a night or for the weekend. Take a mini vacation and explore Florence like a tourist.
