With these simple tips you can start planning better your trip to this magical city.
You have never been to Florence before and you need to decide where to stay and what type of accommodation to get.
After analyzing cost/benefit you will realize that renting an apartment is the best action to take.
First, because you will have your own privacy, with the benefits of a hotel.
Second, you will feel like home, away from home.
And on top of that you will have daily fees far more interesting than hotels offer you.
So, you are online, facing dozens of online agencies that rent apartments in Florence for short, mid or long term. What do you have to really look for?
You should consider the agency that offers you the best options, but you should not underestimate the importance of a great service.
Think for example at being in an apartment managed by an owner (or an agency that doesn’t provide 24/7 service) that is not in town during your stay. What would happen if the fridge breakes or if the key lock did not allow you to get in at midnight, when you are going home after some time around? Service is essential, more than just important.
ApartmentsFlorence .it can offer you selected apartments in the best locations of the centre and provide first class service to assist you during your stay. This includes the typical hotelier concierge service, dedicated to improve the quality of your time while in Florence.
We will get back to that subject in our next post.
For the meantime, check how we can help choose where is the best place to stay.
How to choose a Florence rental "What LOCATION is best?"
• Tip #1: Stay central.
If you are in Florence for a couple of days or for a long term, the best thing to do is to stay in the Centro Storico. The centre is only 20 minutes walking distance from side to side!
Doing so you will be able to walk everywhere in town. I mean, everywhere. You won’t need a car, bus or taxi. Of course, you can use public transportation if you want. A lot of people do, but it’s far more interesting know the city walking, or riding a rental bike.
Walking distance to all top touristic spots is not the only benefit you get by staying in the Centro Storico.
You will have access to everything you need: bars, restaurants, train station, convenience stores, pharmacies, hospitals, public transportation, taxi, supermarket, grocery shops, laundry, coffee shops… everything!
And, frankly, you really cannot go wrong choosing Centro Storico.
It is totally safe, even late at night. It offers you a beautiful experience of what is to live in this unique city, watching the architecture, having a lively street atmosphere, eating at osterias and trattorias, plus major monuments and sights within immediate access.
• Tip #2: Both sides of the Arno are good.
The Arno river crosses the city and divides the Centro Storico in two parts.
The northern part is where you can find all major touristic attractions. It’s usually more expensive and more touristic. The southern part (Oltrarno) is less touristic, usually less expensive and also interesting.
On the southern side of the river you will find Palazzo Pitti, Giardino di Boboli, Santo Spirito church, among others. We recommend the Santo Spirito area, where you can get most of the “local feeling” and not being ran over by massive guided tours.
On the northern share of the Centro you will find the Cathedral (the Duomo), the train station, l’Accademia, Uffizi, Piazza della Republica, Piazza della Signoria …and the list goes on. On this side we recommend the Santa Croce area. Less touristic and full of local business.
In this short and simple presentation of the city’s geography there are, of course, nuances from district to district, but anywhere in this limited area you will be well placed.
So, unless you happen to already have a preference, you should not worry too much about choosing between them. Just make sure to take a look at the city’s map before making up your mind.
• Tip #3: Central area can be noisy. This is Florence!
Many places in the central area can be noisy. This is the city’s spirit. At night, of course, the greater number of the population is sleeping. Shops are closed. And buses don’t run till very late. However, bars and restaurants are open. Tourists are out and about. Street artists are performing. People are having fun!
Ok, ok. You want a quiet place to rest your head on the pillow. We have that for you. Most of our apartments are really night-noise free. But be aware that Centro Storico is not as quiet as a farm.
• Tip #4: If on a low budget trip or looking for calmer spots, consider low season bookings, downsizing or properties outside central area.
If your money won't make it to the central location, in which the majority of the properties of our portfolio are, or if you want to wake up with the birds singing at you every morning, search for apartments outside, but near Centro Storico.
It won’t take you more than 30 minutes (or less) walking to reach the center.
If you rent or buy a bike you can make it in less than 10 minutes. By bus is also very easy to reach downtown.
However, there are some downsides to these B-list locations.
What makes this list not so requested is the fact that staying out of the center you will most likely not have the Florence feeling. Your experience in our beautiful city won’t be complete staying outside the area where everything happens.
Instead of moving to the outskirts, if you are on a tighter budget, you might consider booking a studio, or choose low season dates if possible. That way you will still enjoy the most vibrant Florence experience possible.
We hope these tips help, as the location of the apartment goes along with the quality of your stay in Florence.
