In November, one of the major cultural events of the city.
Documentary festivals are known worldwide. In Italy is not different. The Festival dei Popoli, a florentine non-profit organization, has been active for over fifty years in the promotion and study of social documentary cinema. Responsible for the screening of major documentary productions at international level, the festival has introduced to the public many geniuses of the film-making industry, such as: Gianfranco Mingozzi, Vittorio de Seta, Jean Rouch, Nagisa Oshima, Ian Dunlop, Fred Wiseman, among others.
Originally the idea of the festival was to bring new perspectives from several parts of the world to Florence. Nowadays the world is in Florence, in many ways.
In the event young film-makers are presented to the public, along with the discovering of original work. Space for film experimentation will be given on the week-long festival that happens in November – although it will maintain its essential engagement with international documentary.
