Driving in Florence – An opportunity or inconvenience?
The historic centre is filled with incredible history of the Renaissance, beautiful piazzas, museums, charming restaurants & cafes.  However, what many guide books forget to mention is that Florence is compacted with very small cobblestone streets, making it very difficult to drive through. Not only is it very challenging to drive on these streets, its restricted to local residents. You have to have a special parking pass to enter, otherwise you can be ticketed by the authorities from the hidden cameras.

The general rules for driving within the historic centre are as follows. You can only drive & park after 19:30 pm, and must remove your car before 8am the next morning, otherwise you will get ticketed. We highly suggest that if you are driving to Florence that you park your car at a parking garage in the neighborhood in which you are staying, or find on street parking within "blue lines"on the Oltrarno side of the river. These are metered parking spaces and not considered within the historic centre.

If you can avoid bring a car into Florence the smoother your day will go. You will have more free time to enjoy the magic of Florence, without being burdened by logistics.  We can also provide a private driver to pick you up at the airport or station, please inquire with us about details! Here is a list of parking garages for each of the areas of the city. Parking in garages is the only way non-residents can avoid tickets. Prices range so please contact the garages ahead of time for an exact quote. Buon viaggio tutti!
