One of the best sites in Florence for families
Did you know that Florence was recently named one of the top 5 travel destinations for families by Trip Advisor? We weren’t surprised at all due to the sheer amount of things to do that make both kids and parents happy. One of the top contenders on this list in my mind is the Boboli Gardens.
The gardens lay across the Ponte Vecchio in the area known as the Oltrarno (across the Arno) and span acres and acres starting from the Pitti Palace and running all the way to Porto Romano. They were started by Cosimo di Medici’s wife Elenora di Toledo in the mid-1500s. Contributing artists and planners include Bartolomeo Ammanati, Giorgio Vasari and Bernardo Buontalenti. The gardens feature beautiful sculpture, breathtaking grottos, calming water features and beautiful views over Florence.
This is a great place to explore for an afternoon with your family or even for some “me” time. It’s beautiful and relaxing plus another museum all of its own with its beautiful sculptures and landscaping. Check in throughout the year with Boboli Gardens to learn about special exhibits and events going on. For example, May 19-22 the gardens host “The Fragrances of Boboli” where visitors can experience rare and peculiar fragrances from all over the world and documents of art tradition linked to the botanical world. The fair features every sort of scent from flowers to spices, to soaps and herbs. (For more information: www.profumidiboboli.it)
