One of Florence's oldest churches
This is one of the oldest and largest churches in Florence and should make your list of places to stop as you walk throughout the city center. Located only a block away from the Piazza of the Duomo, this grand church marks the start of the San Lorenzo area with its famous markets – both indoors and outdoors.
The basilica was the church of the Medici family whose palazzo is only a stone’s throw away. Many of the Medicis are buried in and under the church, as well as in the adjoining Medici Chapel that you can tour for a small fee.
It is a beautiful church even though it may not look very grand from the rough exterior. But take our advice and head inside for a glance after you buy that leather jacket in the market that caught your eye!
